Abstrakt:

„Be scientific and help the nation!“ was the wartime slogan for children of the Japanese Empire, but they were also taught to believe in the Shinto mythology of the imperial family. What did science look like? What did a scientific empire mean? This talk examines the promotion of a ‚uniquely Japanese science‘ in wartime Japan through children’s popular media and school curriculum.
